{'I could have killed them' - Lawson faces near miss with Formula 1 marshals
Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when a pair of track officials crossed the track right in his path
The dangerous situation happened on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his broken nose section
Competitor's Live Reaction
Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"
"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"
"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes running across the track"
"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was so dangerous"
Security Issues Highlighted
"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"
"We can't understand how on a live track marshals can be authorized to just dash across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"
Governing Body Reviewing
The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is currently investigating the circumstances
"Subsequent to a first corner event, the race directors was informed that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the FIA
"In the third rotation, track officials were notified and made ready to enter the track and recover the debris once all cars had passed"
"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was displayed in that zone"
"The examination is ongoing what happened after that point"
