Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered numerous engaging creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop attempting to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Across 150 challenges, battle boss fights and visit a store to purchase skins for your poop character.
Plan your jumps with caution, as a error means beginning again. Bounce off bubbles to propel yourself to new heights, navigate crumbling ledges, and activate switches to open secret routes. Earn coins to purchase challenging stages as the action ramps up.
In terms of design, the game shows off neon stages and an amazing background music. The retro graphics of morphing geometric shapes could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to name other games where you play as a dung character, video games have long incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as plant food. Naturally, fecal references is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on PC this November.
