Brave Rail Employee Receives Life-Threatening Injuries Amid Multiple Stabbing Incident on Express Train

A courageous train employee who stepped in to save passengers during a multiple knife incident on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

CCTV video allegedly depicts the employee attempting to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured victims running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in custody for interrogation. Police declared a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The incident on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from medical care.

A witness recorded the suspect waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced police on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose family are being supported by specialist officers,” stated a high-ranking police official.

Union Response and Appeals for Action

Train unions were swift to commend staff and call for more action. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the strongest possible support, tools and effective protocols in place”.

A different association leader encouraged the train operator and authorities “to act quickly to examine safety, to support the affected employees, and to ensure that no incident like this occurs again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Thinking

The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been commended by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not halt the service in the center of two stations where it’s clearly challenging for the first responders to access, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” stated a association official.

Further Information

Police said they received the initial emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An observer recounted initially wondering if the situation was a Halloween joke, but quickly understood from individuals' expressions that it was real.

Police have confirmed there is nothing to indicate the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the community to come forward with any further information.

Rail services on the impacted line are anticipated to have delays until Monday, with passengers recommended to postpone their journeys where possible.

Individuals with information that could help the investigation are encouraged to reach police by sending a message a designated number with a case code.
